The Complete Home Water Quality Test Kit
I am aware of this test kit from Freedrinkingwater web site. It tests for Coliform bacteria, nitrates, nitrites, hydrogen sulfide, total hardness, total alkalinity, total chlorine, free chlorine, chloride, copper, sulfate, iron, and pH. I am aware of this testing kit on the Alibaba web site. It comes from a Thai company, but it is not clear where it is manufactured. Unfortunately, no price was given. If interested, you should ring the phone number to find out more.

ผมอยู่ในสถานการณ์เมื่อเร็วๆนี้ที่จำเป็นต้องทดสอบคุณภาพของน้ำดื่มจากเครื่องกรองน้ำเก่าที่ผมสงสัยว่ามันไม่ได้ทำได้ดีอีกต่อไป

The problem of availability
I was in the situation the other day whereby I needed to test the quality of drinking water from an ageing water filtration unit that I suspected wasn't performing as well as it used to.
However, when I tried to find a suitable water test kit from the original supplier of the water filtration unit, I was surprised when they said that they couldn't supply one.
Of course, it begs the question why not. The spokesperson said that people just bought a new replacement filter if they had any doubts about the quality of the old one.
So, I asked if she could supply a new replacement filter for the old filtration unit. She replied yes of course, but they cost 3,500 baht each, and also that this particular filtration unit needed two! Total 7,000 baht - enough said!
I tried to obtain a water test kit at a few other places around Bangkok, but was met with the same reply, no, we don't keep them.
At the time of writing (2015) I am still not sure why nobody can supply a water test kit; I can only suppose it's a way to boost replacement water filter sales! If you have any ideas, please leave them as a comment below, thanks.
Anyway, this blog is a starting point to find a suitable drinking water test kit in Thailand. You can, of course, buy one on the internet if you have the means to pay for one. There are quite a few web sites that sell them. I have placed a list of links to the right. I will mention a few test kits in posts here, and also review a few web sites. If you know of a water test kit that isn't mentioned here, please let me know by posting a comment with its details.
